Conference Venue

Aula Magna

The conference will be held in the Aula Magna of Palazzo Bo, the main historic building of the Università di Padova.

In this room (image on the right), which has more than 300 seats, Galileo taught experimental physics and astronomy during the 18 years he was professor of Mathematics. In Sala dei Quaranta (Hall of the Forties) which is just outside the Aula Magna of the University, is Galileo Galilei's desk, where he used to teach.

The University of Padova is one of the oldest in the world, officially founded in 1222 by professors and students who escaped from Bologna University. It has seen several famous students like: Nicholas Copernicus, Paolo Sarpi, Gerolamo Cardano. In 1678 Elena Lucrezia Piscopia become the first woman graduate in the world, with a degree in Philosophy. Padova has the oldest Botanical Garden, founded in the year 1545 and also the first permanent Anatomy Theatre in the world built in the year 1595 in Palazzo Bo.

It is hosted in the former "San Gaetano" convent of the Theatins (built in 1582), used as a Tribunal until 1995 and completely restored in 2006-2008. The building is characterized by the closed space of the cloister which became a large square hall for ceremonies.
