Photographic Archives

A great amount of highly valuable information is stored in the photographic Archive of the Observatory: plates and films date from 1942 and go up to 1994, when the use of photography was abandoned (with few exceptions in the following years until 1998), with the use of CCDs.

The total amount of plates and films, obtained with the four telescopes in Asiago (Galileo 1.22m until 1942; Schmidt 40/50cm until 1959, Schmidt 67/92cm until 1965, Copernico 1.82m until 1973) exceeds 70.000. A project aimed to the digitisation of part of the plates started in 2001 (see details from here).
